Attractions in Manali
Hadimba Temple
Also known as the Dhundri temple is a temple made out of wood and stone. Constructed in 1553, the Hadimba Temple was built in honour of Goddess Hadimba, the wife of Bhim from the Mahabharata. The walls of the temple are covered with woodcarvings and on the month of May each year, animal sacrifices are carried out here for the three day Dhungri Mela.
Manu Temple
This magnificent temple is dedicated to the sage Manu, who is said to be the creator of the world and the writer of Manusmriti. The Manu Temple is located in old Manali, at a distance of three kilometers from the main market. Though this area is quite congested, the presence of the River Beas adds to its attraction. The temple is one of the prime attractions in Manali and is believed to be the same place where sage Manu meditated after stepping on earth.
Vashisht Temple
ashisht is a small village located around 3 km from Manali across the River Beas. This beautiful village is famous for its sulphurous hot water springs and Vashisht temple, built just next to the springs. The water from this spring is believed to have great healing powers, which can cure many skin diseases and other infections.
Rohtang Pass
A gateway to Lahaul and Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, remains one of the most spectacular destinations in the entire Kullu region. This picturesque pass is located around 51 kms away from Manali, at a height of 3980 meters, on Manali Keylong highway. This mountain slope is so beautiful that people from every corner of the country visit this place to take part in adventure sports such as skiing, ice-skating, paragliding, etc. The Rohtang Pass is open for tourist from April to October and the permission to travel on this highway is given by the Indian Army, once they clear the snow.
How To Reach Manali
By Air
Bhuntar, which is located 50 km from Manali is the closest airport to Manali. The Bhuntar airport is well connected by flights to Delhi. There are tasi services available between Bhuntar and Manali.
By Train
One of the most convenient and faster ways to reach Manali is to avail the broad gauge trains. Trains to Manali take you to the nearest station broad gauge railway stations of Kalka, Chandigarh and Pathankot. Some of the trains that run from these stations are:
- Kalka Howrah Mail connecting Kalka and Howrah
- Shatabadi Express Kalka – New Delhi
- Shatabadi Express Chandigarh – New Delhi
